Benefits of Membership
The Delaware Society of Mayflower Descendants is a part of the General Society of Mayflower Descendants headquartered in Plymouth, Massachusetts. Anyone joining becomes a member of both organizations. Members receive our newsletter, The Mayflower Lynes, published twice a year and the Mayflower Quarterly which is published four times a year by the General Society. Both publications include information on upcoming events and reports of recent past events, interesting articles on Pilgrim history, and genealogy aides. Members are entitled to free use of the extensive genealogical collection in the Mayflower Library located at the General Society’s headquarters. Once approved for membership, members receive a certificate, suitable for framing, naming their Mayflower ancestor.
The Delaware Society meets twice a year. There is a Spring Reception usually the third Sunday in May at a place of historical interest. At this reception there can be a tour and/or a speaker and a chance to socialize. Traditionally the Saturday before Thanksgiving we have a Compact Day Luncheon and our Annual Meeting. At this gathering we honor the Mayflower Compact and the role it has played in the foundation of our government, and our Mayflower ancestors with a roll call, with each member standing as his/her ancestor is named. Our Compact Day Luncheon always features a talk about Mayflower history.
